Unique New Diving App For Grand Cayman
An innovative new iphone app will give visitors to Grand Cayman a comprehensive guide to diving on the island.
Pocket Tours – Diving Grand Cayman has just been launched and is the first app of its kind, offering holiday-makers as well as residents of the island a wealth of fascinating and useful information.
Grand Cayman is one of the world's most popular diving destinations. Boat diving excursions are extremely well served, but most visitors never get to experience the wealth of inexpensive, exciting easy access shore dives. The guide uses expert local knowledge to allow visitors to dive to suit the time they have. No need to pre book, no need to join a tour - just use the app to get to the start point and away you go.
This app aims to introduce divers to shore dive sites around Grand Cayman. The dives selected all have excellent dive shops on shore, easy access to the water and are accessible from George Town.
Features of the app, which uses all of the pioneering capability of the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, include:
- Sites marked on a map of the island giving accurate GPS coordinates.
- The stands include a full dive briefing and indication of points of interest along with an idea of what sort of wildlife could be encountered. The dives are graded both with regard to diver experience and dive quality.
- Captivating videos of each site, from the land and underwater, along with audio briefing and a wide range of still images. The aim is to equip the diver with enough information to find the site and enjoy a safe dive without further guidance or research. The professional dive masters and instructors at each site are always available for extra advice and help so those needing any assistance are well catered for.
- A history of the islands, general advice on local diving as well as information relevant to visitors. For example, there is an explanation of the Lionfish invasion of the Caribbean and information about Grand Cayman's hyperbaric decompression chamber.
Once downloaded, users don’t need costly and often slow internet access to use the app. They can just plug in their headphones and immerse themselves in the information. Even if you can’t get to Grand Cayman, the app remains an illuminating and engrossing knowledge source in its own right.
